On the nose, aromas of strawberry laced chocolate truffle provide the necessary distraction while a burst of boysenberry tang covertly sneaks us across the bridge and into the mid-palate. Daring yet elusive, it goes on to reveal a decadent little secret of blueberry compote, hiding in plain sight.

Next comes more smoky intrigue: grilled fig notes ease in like a velvet dossier passed over a foggy border, mingling with the opulent richness of medjool dates - because even a turncoat needs a touch of luxury. A subtle quince note lurks in the finish, tart and enigmatic, leaving you wondering whose side this wine is really on. Full-bodied yet nimble, with tannins that grip like a well-tailored trench coat, The Defector betrays nothing but pleasure.
